Sunrise. Waking up to the waves crashing against the shore. "Why am I here"? I ask myself and I address my surroundings. A landmass covered in sand, ocean blue water that gets darker the further you look, and one lonely palm tree with huge green leaves. As the sun beats down on my skin, I climb the tree to grab a leaf for shade. As I climb, my hands get nicked and pierced by the bark. I grab one and jump down. As I assess the damage, I notice my scars on the outside of my hands and arms. I close my eyes and slip in a fantasy of telling her about why I covered my arms and hands and why that attributes to my low self-confidence. I'm awoken by my phone buzzing on 5 percent. I brighten up my screen because of the sun and I see her face still as my background. For the moment, it makes me smile. But I also remember that she may be worried. So I take the chance to call. As the phone rings, I pace. I'm hoping she picks up. She doesn't. I leave a message after the tone. "Hey babe...um...I don't know where I am now...and I don't think that I'll be rescued. I want you to know something...I really want you to know..." I'm interrupted by my phone buzzing to let me know it's dead. "...I love you...so much". I say as I chuck it in the ocean. The sky turns a really bright pink as the sun sets. It reminds me of the last time we were together. How we went to our secret area and watched the sunset. Seeing the sun rays peek through the leaves, having her in my arms, as we listened to birds chirping and our hearts beating in unison. I felt at peace. Then reality struck. "I'll never be able to have that again". I say to myself, welling up. I've always been afraid of big bodies of water and I can't swim. But I'd go out than be here any longer. I inch closer to the water. My heart rate speeds up. My mind races saying "Do it. End it." and "This isn't the end. You can be saved." I decide against it and just lie on the warm white sand. As the sunsets blinds me, I decide to stand upright and place my back against the tree. As I give up hope, I go back to when I was most happy. With you. It was almost like I could feel your head on my chest, humming our song, and telling me you love the sunset. I reply "Let's watch it forever."
